Ucluelet sits on the exposed western edge of Vancouver Island, where Barkley Sound opens onto the open Pacific. Migrating Chinook and coho stage on the offshore banks to feed, and the grounds are close enough that you are fishing within minutes of leaving the harbour.

Fishing in Ucluelet means Chinook and coho through the season, with halibut and lingcod on the bottom the same day. These are feeding grounds rather than a river mouth, so the fishing holds up from May through September.
